The Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) has announced an e-waste recycling event. The BGA will collect old electronics on May 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Times Square. The drive is a partnership with 4THBIN, an organization that finds secure and safe recycling solutions.

The e-waste drive is open to theater industry members and the general public alike, offering a centrally located, free resource to responsibly recycle electronics.

Individuals representing Broadway shows, and other industry members, can donate a hamper full of electronics for free; additional recycled materials come with a suggested cost of 0.50 cents per pound. The general public can recycle up to 100 pounds for free.

The BGA will accept computers and peripherals, electronic cords, fax machines, CPUs, phones, laptops, printers, combination television and computers, PDAs and pagers, camera and other data containing devices.

Items such as light bulbs, batteries, household appliances, air conditioning units, power tools, coffee machines and medical devices (such as X-ray machines) cannot be donated.

The BGA, which advocates for and educates better recycling practices for the theater industry, celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2023.
