The Broadway Green Alliance will host a textile reuse and recycling drive on Sept. 17 in Manhattan. The event, organized in partnership with Wearable Collections, will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Duffy Square (at the corner of 46th Street and 7th Avenue).
The drive will serve as a free resource for all shows, venues, industry members and fans to responsibly recycle any unwanted textiles. Community members unable to attend the event can drop off their items at the refashionNYC textile bin located in the lounge of the Actors’ Equity Association offices on the fourth floor of 165 West 46th Street.
Items being accepted at the Sept. 17 drive include used clothing, clean clothing, shoes, curtains, hats, linens, towels, handbags and belts. Items that cannot be accepted are rugs, carpets, comforters, pillows, household items, large luggage, fabric yardage and fabric scraps.
The Broadway Green Alliance is an industry-wide initiative that aims to educate, motivate and inspire the theater community and its patrons to implement environmentally friendlier practices on Broadway and beyond. The Broadway Green Alliance has successfully implemented significant sustainability reform at the forefront of the industry since its inception in 2008.
