Broadway box office holds steady in final week of January

The sharp decline in grosses Broadway experienced throughout the month of January appears to have leveled out. For the week ending Jan. 29, the 23 shows running grossed $25,705,039, a decrease of just 0.5%. Capacity was at 94%, an increase of 0.7% from last week.

The sharp decline in grosses Broadway experienced throughout the month of January appears to have leveled out.

For the week ending Jan. 29, the 23 shows running grossed $25,705,039, a decrease of just 0.5%. Capacity was at 94%, an increase of 0.7% from last week.

The three top-grossing productions were “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Funny Girl” and “Hamilton.” Thirteen shows grossed over $1 million.

Fourteen productions played to 95% capacity or greater while just three played to 80% or less. Notably, all productions played to at least 77% capacity.

In the final week of its Broadway run, “The Piano Lesson” grossed $1,259,306, up 11%. The August Wilson revival played to 100% capacity.

Nearing the end of its run, “Take Me Out” saw a gross increase of 16%. The drama earned $631,247 and played to 86% capacity.

“Phantom,” which celebrated its 35th and final anniversary on Broadway last week, grossed $2,483,532, up 12%. The musical played to 100% capacity.

“Pictures From Home” began previews on Jan. 13 at Studio 54; the new play officially opens on Feb. 9. Broadway Week began on Jan. 17 and continues through Feb. 12.
