At that time, the musical, chronicling the life of Carole King, will have been on Broadway for close to six years. It will have played 2,418 performances and 60 previews, becoming the 27th longest-running musical on Broadway.

“Beautiful,” produced by Paul Blake and Mike Bosner, opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Jan. 13, 2014. The production recouped its $13 million capitalization in September 2014.

While “Beautiful” initially posted strong grosses, its box office has experienced a gradual downward trend, with the musical posting 50% to 60% of its gross potential for much of this winter. Attendance has remained high throughout its run.

The musical features music by King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, a book by Douglas McGrath and direction by Marc Bruni. Vanessa Carlton currently stars in the Broadway musical as Carole King.

It has a currently running national tour, about to embark on its fifth year, and has had productions on the West End, as well as in Japan and Australia. Sony Productions has also announced a film adaptation of the musical, with Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Paul Blake signed on as producers.

The long-running musical announced closing one day after “Waitress,” which announced Tuesday that it will be closing in January. They join 12 other commercial productions which have recently closed or announced closing dates.
