ATG Entertainment has announced that Melanie Smith has been hired as its new chief executive officer, effective immediately. Smith replaces Ted Stimpson, who has led the organization over the last three years as it acquired Jujamcyn Theatres and subsequently rebranded.

Smith comes from the British live events venue operator NEC Group, where she served as CEO for the past two and a half years. She is also deputy chair of the dance organization Sadler’s Wells.

“ATG is the perfect place to bring together my passion for theater and my experience of delivering world-class live events and experiences,” Smith said in the statement. “I am excited to work closely with my new colleagues and with Providence Equity Partners as we continue to deliver outstanding live entertainment to audiences around the world and unlock new opportunities for the business.”

“Her combination of operational rigor, strategic insight and genuine passion for theater and live events makes her exceptionally well placed to lead ATG as the business enters its next phase of growth,” said ATG board member Andrew Tisdale of Smith’s hire.

The British-held ATG is an active producer and theater owner on Broadway and in London’s West End. Beyond venue management, ATG’s in-house production companies actively produce and co-produce shows in these venues.
