# Tony Award winner Michael Mayer to direct workshop of new musical ‘Tinseltown Tiptoe’

A new musical, “Tinseltown Tiptoe,” has set an invite-only workshop presentation in New York City for Jan. 7, 2027.

Michael Mayer, the Tony-winning director of “Spring Awakening,” will helm the workshop. Mayer most recently directed the 2025 Broadway revival of “Chess” and will next direct the Main Stem musical “Galileo.” 

With a book by Kate Moira Ryan and Nicholas Coster and a score by Heather Reid, “Tinseltown Tiptoe” is set in Golden Age Hollywood and centers on young heartthrob Cliff Stone. In order to conceal his relationship with blacklisted writer Mark, Cliff is forced into a marriage with aging star Dora Gentry. As the trio are pursued by a slighted gossip columnist, the publicity revives Dora’s career, inspires her assistant’s screenwriting dreams and threatens to drive a wedge between Cliff and Mark.

Ryan co-wrote the dramatic comedy “The Beebo Brinker Chronicles” with Linda S. Chapman as well as “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother” and “The Judy Show,” both with Judy Gold. Coster’s writing credits include “The Gravy” and “June Mourning” — both finalists in the TheatreWorks short play festival. Reid is a founding member of the alternative pop duo the Murmurs. Orchestrations are by Steve Sidwell, the Tony Award-nominated orchestrator of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” Joshua Zecher-Ross will serve as the music director for the reading.

The workshop presentation of “Tinseltown Tiptoe” is being produced by Christine Russell, who was an executive producer of “Beautiful” and a lead producer “Head Over Heels.” General management of the “Tinseltown Tiptoe” workshop will be by Bespoke Theatricals.
