# ‘The Ferryman’ announces recoupment

“The Ferryman” has recouped its investment on Broadway, the production announced Sunday.

The play, which won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Play, finished its run on July 7\. Featuring a full company of 35 people, as well as live animals on stage, the play was capitalized for up to $6.7 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“The Ferryman,” [written by Jez Butterworth](https://broadwaynews.com/2019/05/08/how-the-ferryman-sprang-to-life/?ref=broadwaynews.com) and directed by Sam Mendes, opened on Broadway on Oct. 21, 2018, after a run on the West End. It was produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street Productions.

Bolstered by positive reviews, the play’s box office started out strong, with [grosses reaching a high](https://broadwaybusiness.com/grosses/show/the-ferryman?ref=broadwaynews.com) of $1.04 million in the holiday week ended Dec. 30, 2018\. Grosses began flagging in the winter, but the show received a boost from its Tony Award win and began an upward trajectory for its final weeks, bringing in $949,693 in the most recent week.
