# Second Stage delays first Broadway preview of ‘Mother Play’

Second Stage has pushed back the first Broadway preview of “Mother Play.” Previews of the Jessica Lange-starrer were [originally](https://www.broadwaynews.com/jessica-lange-jim-parsons-celia-keenan-bolger-to-star-in-paula-vogels-mother-play/) scheduled to begin on April 2; performances will now start on April 3 at the Hayes Theater. The world premiere, written by Paula Vogel, will open on April 25 for a limited run through June 16.

The three-hander will also feature Jim Parsons and Celia Keenan-Bolger. 

Directed by Tina Landau, “Mother Play” examines the family dynamics of matriarch Phyllis (Lange) and her children, Carl (Parsons) and Martha (Keenan-Bolger), as they unpack their past in 1960s Washington, D.C.

“Mother Play” is being produced by Second Stage under the leadership of president and artistic director [Carole Rothman](https://www.broadwaynews.com/second-stage-theater-founder-carole-rothman-to-step-down-at-end-of-2023-2024-season/) and interim executive director [Lisa Lawer Post](https://www.broadwaynews.com/khady-kamara-departs-second-stage-lisa-lawer-post-appointed-interim-executive-director/).
