Samuel French has acquired the licensing rights for the musical “War Paint,” the company announced Thursday.

“War Paint” closed on Broadway on Nov. 5, 2017, after playing 33 previews and 236 regular performances at the Nederlander Theatre. The musical, which starred Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, began at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in 2016.

The musical features a book by Doug Wright, music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie.

The story is based on the 2004 book “War Paint,” by Lindy Woodhead and the 2007 documentary “The Power & The Glory” by Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman.

On Broadway the musical was produced by David Stone, Marc Platt, James L. Nederlander, Barbara Whitman, Patrick Catullo, Marcia Goldberg, Universal Stage Productions, Independent Presenters Network and the Goodman Theatre.
