Television producer Ryan Murphy is creating a film adaptation of “The Prom” for Netflix.

Murphy, the creator and producer of shows such as “Glee” and “American Horror Story,” will work on the adaptation with the musical’s producers, Dori Berinstein and Bill Damaschke, and the creative team, including director Casey Nicholaw, book writers Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin and composer Matthew Sklar.

Murphy made the announcement Tuesday night after hosting a special performance of “The Prom” to benefit Hetrick Martin, GLAAD and The Trevor Project. “The Prom” opened at the Longacre Theatre on Nov. 15, 2018.

The adaptation comes as part of five-year deal Murphy struck with Netflix to exclusively produce films and series for the platform.

In a [post on his Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/BwDhYq1Bai8/?ref=broadwaynews.com), Murphy wrote that the show was one of “the most uplifting, heartfelt and special musicals” he had seen on Broadway.

“It’s truly an original that celebrates the underdog and says in a loving spectacular way that LGBTQ rights are human rights. I feel a special connection to it because it’s set in Indiana, and that’s where I grew up, too,” the post reads.
