# Rupert Everett to replace Eddie Izzard in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’

Rupert Everett will replace Eddie Izzard in the upcoming Broadway revival of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”

Izzard, who was previously announced to star opposite Laurie Metcalf, is leaving the production due to scheduling difficulties, according to the production. The play, [directed by Joe Mantello](https://broadwaynews.com/2019/04/13/laurie-metcalf-eddie-izzard-to-star-in-whos-afraid-of-virginia-woolf-on-broadway/?ref=broadwaynews.com), is scheduled to begin previews on March 2, 2020, with an opening night on April 2, at a Shubert Theatre to be announced.

Everett returns to Broadway for the first time in 10 years, after making his debut in 2009 in “Blithe Spirit.” He has also appeared on the West End in “Pygmalion” and “The Judas Kiss.” His film career includes starring roles in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “An Ideal Husband.”

Russell Tovey and Patsy Ferran also star alongside Metcalf and now Izzard.

The revival is produced by Scott Rudin, Barry Diller and David Geffen.
