Michelle Williams is leaving her role in “Once on This Island,” effective immediately.

Williams, the former Destiny’s Child singer who took over the role of Erzulie on Nov. 30, was advised by doctors to take a leave of absence, according to the press release. Lea Salonga, the original Erzulie, will return to play the role from Dec. 27 [until the show’s closing](https://broadwaynews.com/2018/11/27/once-on-this-island-will-play-last-performance-on-jan-6/?ref=broadwaynews.com) on Jan. 6.

In the interim, understudy Cassondra James will take over the role from Dec. 12 through Dec. 26.
