Mary-Louise Parker will return to Broadway in Adam Rapp’s play “The Sound Inside.”

David Cromer, director of “The Band’s Visit,” will direct the Broadway premiere of this production, which begins previews at Studio 54 on Sept. 14, with an opening night on Oct. 17.

The play comes to Broadway after making its world premiere at the Williamstown Theatre Festival last summer, where Parker also starred in the role of Bella, a creative writing professor. Will Hochman, making his Broadway debut, will reprise his role as Christopher, one of her students.

The play is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Lincoln Center Theater and Rebecca Gold.

Parker returns to Broadway after starring in “Heisenberg,” “Proof,” for which she won a Tony Award, and “Prelude to a Kiss,” among others.

This is the Broadway debut for Rapp, whose previous plays include “Red Light Winter,” a Pulitzer Prize finalist, “Nocturne” and “Faster.”

The creative team includes scenic designer Alexander Woodward, costume designer David Hyman, lighting designer Heather Gilbert, with original music and sound design by Daniel Kluger, orchestrator of this season’s “Oklahoma!” and projection design by Aaron Rhyne.
