Martin McDonagh’s “Hangmen” will transfer to Broadway this spring following Off-Broadway and West Ends runs.

Directed by Matthew Dunster, the play will begin previews at the Golden Theatre on Feb. 28, 2020, with an opening night on March 19\. This marks McDonagh’s seventh play to be produced on Broadway, including “The Beauty Queen of Leenane,” “The Cripple of Inishmaan” and “The Lieutenant of Inishmore.”

McDonagh is also known for his screenplays, which include the recently Academy Award-nominated “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

“Hangmen” arrives on Broadway after originating in London. The 2016 West End production won the Olivier Award for Best Play. It then transferred to the Atlantic Theater for a run in January 2018.

Set in England in 1965, “Hangmen” centers on Harry Wade, a famous executioner, and the townspeople and press who gather in Harry’s pub to hear his reaction to the abolition of hanging.

Casting for the Broadway run will be announced at a later date. The Off-Broadway cast included Mark Addy, Johnny Flynn, Reece Shearsmith and Gilles Geary.

The play is produced by Robert Fox, Jean Doumanian and Elizabeth L. McCann.

It is slated to play a 20-week engagement through July 18.

“Hangmen” will feature scenic and costume design by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Joshua Carr and sound design by Olivier Award winner Ian Dickinson.
