Music Theatre International has announced that “How to Dance in Ohio” is [now available](https://www.mtishows.com/how-to-dance-in-ohio?ref=broadwaynews.com) for professional and amateur licensing. MTI [had previously announced](https://www.broadwaynews.com/music-theatre-international-acquires-licensing-rights-to-how-to-dance-in-ohio/) the acquisition of the rights to the 2023 Broadway musical.

Based on the Peabody Award-winning documentary of the same name (directed by Alexandra Shiva) and with a book and lyrics by Rebekah Greer Melocik and music by Jacob Yandura, “How to Dance in Ohio” follows a group of autistic young adults and their families as they prepare for a spring formal dance. The show opened at the Belasco Theatre on Dec. 10, 2023, and ran through Feb. 11, 2024\. It received a special [2024 Drama Desk Award](https://www.broadwaynews.com/the-outsiders-leads-broadway-musicals-in-2024-drama-desk-nominations-stereophonic-leads-plays/) for its authentic representation team’s efforts in presenting neurodiversity onstage.

“‘How to Dance in Ohio’ is a coming-of-age story about courage, connection and the beauty of being unapologetically yourself,” said MTI president and CEO Drew Cohen in a statement. “The musical celebrates neurodiversity, friendship and first love — not as obstacles to overcome, but as experiences that shape who we are. We know this show will resonate with audiences around the country.”

MTI is a leading theatrical licensing firm. Other recent acquisitions by the firm include “[Maybe Happy Ending,”](https://www.broadwaynews.com/exclusive-maybe-happy-ending-licensing-rights-acquired-by-mti/) which won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Musical, and [“Finding Neverland.”](https://www.broadwaynews.com/finding-neverland-is-now-available-for-licensing/)

“How to Dance in Ohio” was produced on Broadway by P3 Productions with Level Forward.
