# Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow to star in ‘Hillary and Clinton’ on Broadway

Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow will star in ‘Hillary and Clinton’ on Broadway this season.

The play, written by Lucas Hnath, will be produced by Scott Rudin and directed by Joe Mantello. It will begin previews on March 16, 2019, with an opening night on April 18, 2019.

The theater has not yet been announced.

This is the second time Hnath and Rudin have teamed up, after Hnath’s play “A Doll’s House, Part 2” premiered on Broadway in 2017\. Rudin also worked with Metcalf and Mantello on last season’s “Three Tall Women.”

“Hillary and Clinton” marks Rudin’s sixth play opening this season, alongside “Waverly Gallery,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “King Lear” and “Gary: A Sequel to Titus Adronicus.”

Set in New Hampshire in 2008, Clinton, played by Metcalf, is trying to save her campaign to be president of the United States. Bill, played by Lithgow, tries to advise as does her campaign manager. While this follows historical events, the play description notes that “if any of this sounds familiar, don’t be fooled; in a universe of infinite possibilities, anything that *can* happen, *will.”*

The play premiered at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater in 2016.

The show’s creative team includes Chloe Lamford on set design, Ann Roth on cosutme design and Hugh Vanstone on lighting.
