# Laura Bell Bundy to star in industry presentations of new musical ‘Joy’

Laura Bell Bundy will play the lead role in industry presentations of the new musical “Joy” this week.

Bundy, the original Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde,” takes on the role of entrepreneur Joy Mangano, who was played by Jennifer Lawrence in the 2015 film. The cast for the presentations Thursday and Friday includes Mauricio Martínez, Annie Golden, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Michael McCormick and Sami Bray.

The musical is directed by Sammi Cannold. “Joy” features a score by AnnMarie Milazzo and a book by Ken Davenport, who obtained [the musical rights](https://broadwaynews.com/2018/03/26/ken-davenport-kurt-deutsch-develop-vacation-musical/?ref=broadwaynews.com) to Mangano’s life story.

“Joy” will have its world premiere at a regional theater in the fall of 2022.

The production features musical supervision by Andy Einhorn and musical direction by Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh. Sandi Moran and Davenport are producing.
