# ‘& Juliet’ cast member Justin David Sullivan sustains injury onstage; takes temporary leave

Justin David Sullivan, who originated the role of May in “& Juliet,” was injured during the Aug. 3 evening performance of the Tony Award-nominated musical at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The musical’s producers provided the below statement.

“Justin was injured onstage during the show on Saturday night due to an accidental operator error. They’ve been evaluated by doctors and are at home recovering. We expect them to return soon.”

The role of May will be played by understudies while Sullivan recuperates.

Unrelatedly, the production [recently announced](https://www.broadwaynews.com/broadways-juliet-will-welcome-drew-gehling-to-the-cast/) that Sullivan, along with fellow original players Ben Jackson Walker and Philippe Arroyo, will play their final performance in the musical on Oct. 27\. Fellow original player Betsy Wolfe will [exit the musical](https://www.broadwaynews.com/betsy-wolfe-sets-final-performance-date-for-juliet/) on Oct. 20.
