The Center for Disease Control issued new guidance Sunday recommending the postponement or cancellation of events of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.

The [guidance](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/large-events/mass-gatherings-ready-for-covid-19.html?ref=broadwaynews.com), issued to help combat the spread of coronavirus, comes as Broadway theaters have been [ordered to close](https://broadwaynews.com/2020/03/12/all-broadway-theaters-to-shut-down-cuomo-orders/?ref=broadwaynews.com) for 30 days, with a targeted reopening date of April 13.

Examples of large events, according to the CDC, include “conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.” The CDC lists an exemption for schools and “businesses,” but does not further clarify what falls into the category of business.

The Broadway League did not immediately respond to a request for comment as to whether this would change the reopening date on Broadway.

If events or gatherings do continue, they should only do so “if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing,” according to the CDC.

These recommendations apply across the U.S.
