# ‘Cabaret’ revival announces alternate casting

The Broadway revival of “Cabaret” has revealed the performance schedule for actors alternating in the roles of the Emcee and Sally Bowles at the August Wilson Theatre. As [previously reported](https://www.broadwaynews.com/eddie-redmayne-and-gayle-rankin-to-lead-cabaret-revival/), Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin, both [Tony Award-nominated](https://www.broadwaynews.com/2024-tony-nominations-the-full-list/) for their respective turns as the Emcee and Sally Bowles, will begin playing seven performances a week. Redmayne will not perform on Monday evenings, while Rankin will sit out Wednesday matinées.

Marty Lauter, who usually plays Victor, will play the Emcee at the July 15, July 22, July 29, Aug. 5, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 evening performances.

David Merino, who usually plays Lulu, will play the Emcee at the July 8 evening performance, in addition to the July 7 matinée performance.

Gabi Campo, usually seen as Frenchie, will play Sally Bowles at the July 1 and July 10 matinée performances; she previously appeared in the June 26 matinée performance.

Ayla Ciccone-Burton, the production’s Helga, will play Sally Bowles at the Aug. 12, Aug. 21 and Aug. 28 matinée performances.

Paige Smallwood, who usually plays Rosie, will play Sally Bowles at the July 17, July 24, July 31 and Aug. 7 matinée performances.

The alternates are all members of the opening-night company and currently understudy their respective alternate roles.

“Cabaret” features a Tony-winning score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff based on both John Van Druten’s play “I Am a Camera” and stories by Christopher Isherwood. The Germany-set musical follows the relationship between American writer Clifford Bradshaw and Sally Bowles, a singer at the hedonistic Kit Kat Club, as they face the impending rise of the Third Reich.

The Rebecca Frecknall-directed revival began previews on April 1 and [opened](https://www.broadwaynews.com/the-broadway-review-cabaret-a-carnal-queer-hotbed-of-thrills/) on April 21\. The production received nine Tony nominations, including a nod for Best Musical Revival. Tom Scutt’s set design, which required an interior [transformation](https://www.broadwaynews.com/when-scenic-designers-transform-an-entire-theater/) of the August Wilson Theatre, was the production’s sole Tony win.

In addition to Redmayne and Rankin, the current principal company of “Cabaret” includes [Bebe Neuwirth](https://www.broadwaynews.com/bebe-neuwirth-and-steven-skybell-join-cast-of-broadways-cabaret-revival/) as Fraulein Schneider, [Steven Skybell](https://www.broadwaynews.com/5-minutes-with-a-tony-nominee-cabarets-steven-skybell/) as Herr Schultz, [Ato Blankson-Wood](https://www.broadwaynews.com/ato-blankson-wood-to-play-cliff-in-cabaret-revival/) as Clifford Bradshaw, [Natascia Díaz](https://www.broadwaynews.com/natascia-diaz-and-henry-gottfried-join-cast-of-broadways-cabaret/) as Fritzie/Kost and Henry Gottfried as Ernst Ludwig. Casting is by Bernard Telsey and Kristian Charbonier.

“Cabaret” is produced by Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Underbelly, Gavin Kalin Productions, Hunter Arnold, Smith & Brant Theatricals and Wessex Grove.
