The 2022-2023 Broadway season generated $1,577,586,897 in total gross revenue and reached a total attendance of 12,283,399 across all shows, according to the Broadway League’s end-of-season report. This first full Broadway season since the pandemic shutdown began on May 23, 2022, and ended May 21, 2023\.

Over this time period, 40 new productions opened, including 15 musicals, 24 plays and one special engagement.

The season included 1,474 playing weeks and 11,506 performances across all productions. In terms of attendance, 88.4 percent of seats were filled when looking at the season as a whole.

“Broadway is making a strong rebound as audiences are returning to New York City to experience extraordinary live theater,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League, in a statement. St. Martin said these numbers indicated an “upward trajectory” for the industry.
