# Broadway grosses fall to $15 million amid winter downturn

Broadway grosses dropped to $15 million last week, as the number of running productions dwindled to 19.

That’s a $1.5 million drop from [the previous week](https://broadwaynews.com/2022/01/26/broadway-capacity-rises-as-ticket-prices-tumble/?ref=broadwaynews.com) and the second lowest aggregate gross released by the Broadway League. Still, it comes with two fewer productions than the previous week, after [the closure](https://broadwaynews.com/2021/11/09/slave-play-announces-complete-broadway-casting-first-black-out-performance-date/?ref=broadwaynews.com) of “Slave Play” and “[Girl from the North Country](https://broadwaynews.com/2022/01/12/girl-from-the-north-country-announces-closing-date-plans-spring-return/?ref=broadwaynews.com)“ on Jan. 23.

The box office totals are on par with the industry’s total gross for the week ended Oct. 3, 2021, when 18 productions were running, according to a Broadway News analysis of [previously undisclosed numbers. ](https://broadwaynews.com/2022/01/31/grosses-show-big-wins-for-old-brands-tougher-economics-elsewhere/?ref=broadwaynews.com)At that time, several shows were in the midst of restarting and were playing less than eight performances.

Capacity in the week ended Jan. 30 rose to 74%, one percentage point [below the prior](https://broadwaynews.com/2022/01/18/broadway-grosses-see-continued-impact-from-omicron/?ref=broadwaynews.com) week’s numbers. Average ticket price fell to a low of $107.73, as several productions participate in discounted Broadway Week ticket promotions.
