# ‘Ain’t Too Proud’ to end Broadway run Jan. 16

“Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations” will play its final Broadway performance Jan. 16, producers Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce announced Tuesday.

The show canceled its Dec. 14 performance and shows from Dec. 20 through Dec. 27 due to breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the company. The production resumes performances Tuesday.

This is the fourth production to announce closure this month, following the rise in coronavirus cases and performance cancellations on Broadway. “Ain’t Too Proud” opened at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway on March 21, 2019\. Its national tour is also set to resume performances at the Kennedy Center Tuesday.

The Broadway production received a $10 million Shuttered Venue Operators Grant to aid in reopening costs.

The musical, which features a score of songs by the Temptations and a book by Dominique Morisseau, was directed by Dec McAnuff and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo. The production was nominated for 12 Tony Awards at the 2019 ceremony, where it won for Trujillo’s choreography.

The cast is currently led by Nik Walker, James Harkness, Jawan M. Jackson, Matt Manuel and Jelani Remy.
