Playwright Samuel D. Hunter has been an acclaimed scribe of the Off-Broadway scene for many years. In 2025, Hunter finally made his Broadway debut with [“Little Bear Ridge Road,”](https://www.broadwaynews.com/why-samuel-d-hunter-chose-to-set-little-bear-ridge-road-during-the-pandemic-after-he-started-writing-it/) a play about the relationship between an aunt and her estranged nephew who hole up together during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like many of his other works, “Little Bear Ridge Road” is a quiet drama. In the below episode, Hunter explained his affinity towards humble stories and writing a role specifically for Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf.

The 2026 Tony Awards will take place on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall. [P!NK will host](https://www.broadwaynews.com/p-nk-will-host-the-79th-annual-tony-awards/) the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on CBS and livestreamed on Paramount+ Premium (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). CBS and Pluto TV will present the Tony Awards: Act One, with additional details to follow.
